15 Most Underrated Bands Of The 90s

1. Stone Temple Pilots

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0gAxuvo5rc Of all the post-grunge also-rans that popped up following the explosion of groups like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Alice In Chains, there was always one band that felt glossed over for trying too hard to emulate that Seattle sound. That band was led by Scott Weiland. Stone Temple Pilots made the simple mistake of releasing a debut album, Core, that aimed to satiate the flannel-wearing acolytes of Kurt Cobain. And they were never really let off the hook for it. Despite how far they ventured away from those initial emulations -- taking on more layers of David Bowie than Eddie Vedder with each subsequent album -- they were unfairly lumped in with the likes of Silverchair and Bush for the entirety of the 90s. But even a cursory listen to their third album, 1996's Tiny Music, should show just how much they'd come into their own. That's not the sound of a grunge rip-off. If anything, that's a scuzzier take on The Zombies with dashes of Zeppelin and The Jesus and Mary Chain thrown in.
