15 Most Underrated Hard Rock Albums Of All Time
14. Queen I - Queen
Queen's albums always seem to have adistinctive polish to them. Whether it's their more operatic moments like "Bohemian Rhapsody" or the funkiness of "Another One Bites The Dust," each production has a certain grandeur that seems to radiate through the speakers. Even from the very beginning, the band's more epic ambitions shone through with extreme gusto.
Though a bit rough around the edges, Queen's debut record is one of the most sonically sophisticated debut albums to come out of the rock sphere. The band's trademark vocal style is already firmly in place, but the sound of the music is much heavier than the hits the band has become known for. There is a certain raw energy to the guitar riffs, which seem to go between the typical Brian May orchestrations and down-and-dirty solos that almost reach Black Sabbath levels of heavy.
The songs are also extremely captivating, from the progressive sounding epic of "Great King Rat" to the almost punkish energy of a song like "Liar." There are certainly tracks that ease the more hard-edged sections like "Doing All Right," but even those are undercut by fantastic crunchy passages to lead you right back into the madness. With a massive amount of sonic weight, this was a massive first step for a band destined to become musical gods.
