While many people would single out Minor Threat or Black Flag as saviors of the scene, no one had as much unfiltered aggression as the Bad Brains.
Under the watchful eye of frontman H.R., the band's records would be short blasts of energy that would make you want to tear your room apart. Though many parents might see it as just noise, each song actually felt carefully composed, with much of the band taking inspiration from diverse genres like jazz and disco. The songs may have been short, but the damage they left would be felt by everyone who heard it.
Every major rock band going forward from Pearl Jam to the Beastie Boys to Lamb of God have all had the same starting point of seeing these guys in a grimy club on the East Coast.
