15 Most Underrated Hard Rock Bands Of All Time

9. Faith No More

As the alternative scene was getting much more popular, bands were also starting to toy with what constituted "alternative rock." While you could find your typical fix from groups like the Smiths or R.E.M., many were just perplexed as to where Faith No More belonged in the conversation.

The band's repertoire was an eclectic mix of metal, funk, rap, and just the subtle traces of traditional rock and roll thrown into the mix. Across their discrogaphy, these guys were making the kind of the music that sounded like if Metallica was asked to play a James Brown song. Even though their styles were all over the map, the band was pumping out some of the greatest tunes of the era, with songs like "Midlife Crisis" and "We Care a Lot" being heralded as some of the most hard-hitting tracks to come out of the scene.

While the band may have been pushing the genre forward, it's completely understandable that MTV and radio stations didn't know what to do with them. Hell, it was hard enough to market the band's biggest hit "Epic," which featured no less than a heavy metal chorus, 80's style hip hop, and a classical piano outro. Regardless of their crossover potential, you're doing yourself a disservice if you choose to overlook these titans of the late 80's.
