15 Most Underrated Hard Rock Singers EVER
5. Scott Weiland - Stone Temple Pilots
When Stone Temple Pilots first broke onto the alternative scene, many fans didn't really know what to make of them. While some people saw a new surge in the scene, other grunge enthusiasts saw the band as catering to young teens by aping the sounds of Seattle.
Though the public opinion may have been split, Scott Weiland's voice was still better than most. In the early days, the man's style was very close to grunge icons like Eddie Vedder, but what made it great is what Weiland would do with his foundation going forward. Across records like Purple and Tiny Music..., Weiland would shift his vocal style to include more slinky vocal runs that called back to the days of 70's glam rock. Even if it was still in Weiland's baritone, the attitude that he brought across set them apart from grunge.
In the grand scheme of things, Weiland's versatility actually ended up helping the band transition out of the grunge fad by taking on a rock and roll aesthetic that was a lot more timeless. While STP may be continuing on with Jeff Gut after Weiland's passing in 2015, the world lost one of the greatest voices the 90's had ever produced.
