15 Most Underrated Hard Rock Singers EVER

6. Ian Astbury - The Cult

Whenever you think of a great hard rock vocalist, you often think of the scream. No matter what kind of guitar riff is being played, it's always nice to have a firm vocalist to anchor everything with his intense shout. While there have been many bands boasting phenomenal belters, no one brings up Ian Astbury nearly enough.

Throughout the Cult's run in the 80's, Astbury's voice was one of the most charismatic that the rock world had to offer. Across tracks like "She Sells Sanctuary" and "Love Removal Machine," Astbury's gutteral howls made it sound like he was physically winding up for every single word he sang. Even with all that intensity, Astbury also had a firm sense of melody, laced with a bluesy delivery underneath the shouts. The screams may have been intense, but every one of them had a perfectly placed note that made the entire track come alive.

Though the Cult may not have reached as widespread acclaim as other hard rock acts, Astbury has still been able to flex his trademark vocals when working with rock legends like Slash. With music still coming down the pipeline, Astbury's pipes haven't shown an ounce of rust and will surely continue thrilling listeners for more years to come.
