15 Things Only DJs Will Understand

9. The Inevitable Damage To Your Eardrums

Most DJs take a great deal of pride in the quality of their equipment. A good soundsystem can make all the difference between a good set and a bad set, and it goes without saying that when people are partying they like their music loud. Even a high quality digital response soundsystem costing upwards of £100,000 is going to take an eventual toll on a DJs eardrums, and if you've been DJing for a few years you'll start to notice that your hearing isn't what it used to be. If you're not careful the dreaded tinnitus will start rearing its ugly head. Most jobs in loud environments encourage the use of headphones to protect the ears - when it comes to DJing, the headphones are just another source of noise, so be prepared for becoming hard of hearing younger than everyone else.
