8. The Smiths Helped Make Them A More Polished Band
The song that broke the band, "Float On," was based around a single guitar riff that former lead guitarist Dann Gallucci wrote to sound like The Smiths. Not so coincidentally, it was the first song that made the band sound really polished, like seasoned pros instead of incredibly crafty novices. So how do you chase after that sound even more when your guitarist leaves the band? Simple. You go right to the source. You call Smiths' guitarist Johnny Marr. For 2007's We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, Isaac Brock sent a request to Marr, living in England, to travel to the States to work on the album.
"I knew it was a demented notion. But I just figured that just because he'd filled a massive part of his life building the Smiths legacy didn't mean he was busy at that precise minute."
