Generation Lost - How We Survive is a fantastic insight into what makes the band tick, showing Tim McIlrath as a loving father playing with his young daughter, Joe Principe's unintentional Woody Woodpecker tattoo that he got just because an angry tattoo artist pushed him, and a peek into the lives of a few fans amongst tens of thousands whose lives are shaped by the band every day. Needless to say if you're getting into the band or you've been following them for years and somehow missed this, it's stage one in the 'How To Become Infatuated With Rise Against' rulebook. Being that the only other DVD out there is 2010's Another Station Another Mile, this is required reading for any wanting to see what the band were like just as they were breaking into mainstream recognition.

YoutubeAs Tim noted in a very recent interview regarding upcoming album The Black Market, there are some fans who worship the older more raw material with a strict reliance on anything more 'friendly-sounding' after The Unravelling is "bullsh*t". That's what makes the band spectacular though, as there are hardly any successful bands out there that have stuck to the same formulas over time and managed to cultivate a worthwhile fanbase along the way. Newest single The Eco-Terrorist In Me proved when it dropped a couple a couple weeks ago that the band can easily tap back into their earlier aggressive sound with ease, whilst also delivering tracks that can be enjoyed by fans of the newer albums too.
