2. The Flatliners
The Flatliners formed in Brampton, Ontario, Canada in 2002. Originally a ska-punk band, this is clearly seen in their debut LP Destroy to Create however they matured their sound through their second full length release The Great Awake which saw a much more skate-punk sound. Signed to Fat Wreck Chords in 2007 for their sophomore release, they have stayed with the label since and regularly tour with label mates and punk legends NOFX. 2010 saw their third full length LP Cavalcade which was welcomed with good reviews across the board and even taking the title of "Album of the year" from Punknews.org. The Flatliners are known for their dedication to fast paced thought provoking punk, steering clear of guitar solos they make their mark with their passionate live shows. They released their fourth LP Dead Language on September 17th 2013. Another band for drummers to have a good listen to (particularly the song S**thawks). With steady and interesting beats, his drumming never sounds repetitive or over the top. Scott's use of a 5 string bass also helps develop the sound of the band and makes them ever more interesting.
Sounds like: We have new champions of skate-punk

1. Descendents
The Descendents were formed in 1978 in Manhattan Beach, California. Known for being the fathers of modern Pop-Punk, they got their starts in the Californian hardcore scene playing regularly with bands like Black Flag and D.R.I. When most californian punk bands were taking on topics of politics and hardcore riffs, the Descendents opted for a much more relatable style of song-writing by covering topics such as being good in school and being picked on for it, and growing old. The Descendents are often attributed to being the founders of the pop-punk genre, thus inspiring bands like Blink 182 and Green Day many years later. Their song 'Pervert' was featured on the soundtrack for Grand Theft Auto V and the documentary 'Filmage' is due out later this year.
Sounds like: A young Blink 182's disgruntled Dad
