3. You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) - Dead Or Alive

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGNiXGX2nLU Released: November 1984. UK Chart Peak: #1. Oz Chart Peak: #3. US Chart Peak: #11. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, before Pete Burns decided that comically over-inflated lips, bulbous cheek implants, nose-jobs and bucketloads of other cosmetic procedures that could make it difficult to open his eyes or move his head and might leave he and Cher looking perilously alike would be a really good idea, and long before he'd rescinded his membership to heterosexuality, he was just your bog-standard somewhat androgynous 80s pop star whose unique presence fronted Dead Or Alive. Released in November 1984, You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) was the second SAW-produced track to top the UK singles chart. Most singles in the UK typically had a chart life of around 10 weeks, so it was highly unusual that You Spin Me Round took 17 weeks to reach #1. You Spin Me Round has had an enormous presence in pop culture since its 1984 release. Not only has it been remixed or re-released at least six times by Dead Or Alive, it's also been covered, sampled, bootlegged or otherwise mashed-up by countless other artists over the years, either for commercial release or within the context of a film or television series, as well as having featured in numerous TV commercials worldwide.

I'm just a guy who loves words. I discover vast tracts of uncharted enjoyment by chucking words together and coming up with stuff that talks about the things I enjoy and love most. I'm also a massive listaholic, so I'm probably talking about a list, looking at a list or banging away at another What Culture list as you read this. My tone's pretty relaxed and conversational, with a liberal sprinkling of sparkling wit, wilting sarcasm and occasional faux-condescension - with tongue almost always firmly planted in cheek.
