18 Things Only Iron Maiden Fans Will Understand

6. Steve Harris Is The Jimmy Page Of Bassists

EMIEMIExcluding the few die-hard Harris fans who may feel it should be the other way around (Jimmy Page is the Steve Harris of guitar players), please allow a quick compare and contrast of the two musicians to explain what we're talking about here. Both Steve Harris and Jimmy Page were the founders of two of the most popular heavy metal bands of all time (although Page might disagree), Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin respectively, and therefore were the natural leaders of both groups. As Steve is the primary songwriter for Maiden, Jimmy was the primary songwriter for Zeppelin. Both musicians spent hours alone in the studio, producing the sound they wanted out of each album, long after the rest of band had gone home. In fact, to achieve greater creative control over the production of their albums, both Steve and Jimmy left the studios to record in private residences. They are both considered two of the most influential players of their instruments (guitar and bass) to have ever lived, being able to speak through their music in ways that will continue to inspire countless generations to come. They are even alike in personality offstage, being both shyly quiet, reserved Englishmen€ Which is where the similarities stop. Most of what the public has learned over the years about Jimmy Page's private life has been somewhat disquieting to say the least. Steve may have written a few songs about the occult, but as far as we know never much cared for the real thing.
