19 Things Only Metallica Fans Will Understand

2. Lars Busting Out The Double Bass Always Feels Amazing

From the DVDs where he's performing to more than the standard tens of thousands of fans for the sake of producing something that will be bought for years to come, to the new song Lords of Summer with its blistering bass-powered intro, when Lars decides to crank things up a notch and flood the arena with the heart-palpitating barrage of a pedal-power, it's nothing short of metal perfection. As any footage of the latest tour will also attest to, Lars appears to be channeling his younger self; re-injecting the likes of Master of Puppet's double-bass flurries that power the main rhythm as he thunders away underneath the band who appear to once again be riding a career high. It's a strange feeling being extremely excited when an artist can stick it to the humongous amount of naysayers and perform a song as it was on record, but it stands that when Lars decides to really go for it, that little Danish demon inside comes back out to play furiously; if you close your eyes it's practically 1989 again.
