19 Things Only Metallica Fans Will Understand

1. St. Anger Was Actually A Cracking Album

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvZn57oeK_0 Woah, you can feel the sudden loss of air in the room as thousands of people simultaneously inhale enough air to begin the inevitable shouting match this debate usually devolves into. However, just take a look back in retrospect and take away the connotations that come along with it - we're not all suddenly experts on drum-tones, and it doesn't matter that the songs are a bit elongated; there are moments of absolute unabashed fury encapsulated on that album and it remains full of other little gems that can hold their own against the band's more celebrated works. Moments like the closing thrash-tastic section of Frantic, Purify's opening section, or to be honest the entire feel of a band throughout just picking a fight with themselves to get an album out; it's raw, barely edited or polished, and it represents one of the most artistically-freeing works they'll ever create, caring not one bit about what was expected of them. Because of all of that it works spectacularly, and it appears St. Anger (like Load and the Black Album fallout beforehand) has been buried under the negative press brought out through Lars Ulrich's battle with Napster, and the quitting of Jason Newsted along the way. Back in 2011 Metallica dug out these 'universally-hated' tracks for their 30th Anniversary, and the crowd went spare for them. We're willing them to have more faith in their latter-day output, as even if they could apply their old 90's sensibilities of doing one giant song that incorporated an entire album into one giant medley, a medley of riffs and sections from St. Anger would be bone-crushing. So do you guys agree? Are there things I've missed, or some you don't think should be on there at all? What do you love about Metallica that other people are yet to fully understand? Let us all know in the comments!
