1975: 10 Songs You Need To Hear Before Their New Album Drops
1. If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know)
We finish our list off with the latest release from The 1975's hotly-anticipated fourth album.
"If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know)" is the 6th (yes, 6th) single to drop from Notes On A Conditional Form and it almost brings us full circle to the very beginning of our list.
"If You're Too Shy" goes back to the band's pop roots, infusing their signature sound with an 80s synth vibe. There's even a saxophone solo, which is disgustingly good.
It's the sort of song that makes record labels wet themselves with excitement, but there's the usual 1975 malice to the track as well.
The protagonist is a man infatuated with "a girl on a screen" and it is implied that she is telling him to expose himself every time they talk - "Maybe I would like you better if you took off your clothes".
It's the sort of cynical and distubring world view we've come to expect from the band by now, but the music in this track takes it to a whole other level. The group's fanbase have had their appetites significantly wettened by this track, now it's time for the main course.
Bring on the album.
