20 Best Hard Rock & Heavy Metal Albums Of 2016

15. Korn - The Serenity Of Suffering

Much like Death Angel, nu metal icons Korn were revitalised in 2016, as displayed on this year's number 15 pick, The Serenity of Suffering.

Up until this album, it seemed like Jonathan Davis and co. were lost in the rock n' roll wilderness, experimenting with dubstep on some of their later albums and being generally unable to recreate that signature Korn spark found on classics like 1998's Follow the Leader.

The Serenity of Suffering more than makes up for that, rediscovering the band's avant-garde swagger from days gone by, as well as adding some hints of melody on "The Hating", "Insane" and the album's true highlight, "A Different World" (which also features a blistering guest showing from Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor).

The only thing The Serenity of Suffering fails to recapture from the olden days is the signature sound of Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu's bass. But that's just one small defect with an otherwise fun experience.
