20 Greatest Guitar Riffs Of All Time

18. Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones (1965)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoxRFOr_sQ0 The five notes that shook the world. The five notes that turned the Rolling Stones into the biggest band in the world. When Keith Richards first pitched this song to the band, he played the riff on a guitar to give them an idea of what it would be, but said he wanted it to be horns on the recording. Still not happy with the way it sounded, he used a Gibson Maestro fuzzbox to give it a sound similar to horns, but everyone else wanted him to stick with the guitar. Thus, it became the one of the first recorded songs to feature an effects pedal, and single handedly began a musical revolution.

17. Day Tripper - The Beatles (1965)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhdPDI9OeY8 Wow, it's so hard to try to narrow it down to just one for the Beatles. With less than a decade together, they still managed to lay down more iconic and brilliant songs than any other artist in history. Still, despite all the excellent songs to pick from for Beatles riffs (Helter Skelter, Come Together, Ticket To Ride, etc), none can come close to 'Day Tripper', what is likely their most recognizable riff. Upon release the song was a huge hit, going to number one in the UK and number five in the US, and continues to be covered by numerous bands down to this day.
