20 Greatest Guitar Riffs Of All Time

16. Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix (1967)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7M3M_p_vvL4 Hendrix. Greatest guitar player of all time? Probably. Best known song? Purple Haze? Definitely. Released at the height of psychedelic music's popularity, Purple Haze was one of the more successful (spending 14 weeks on the UK charts) and is still an inspiration today for countless guitar players, amateur and professional both. Also, ignore the rumors about the lyrics in the song. It's impossible to convince people that it isn't about drugs, and that is does not have the line "Excuse me while I kiss this guy". Just listen to the beautiful guitar playing, if nothing else.

15. Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin (1970)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlNhD0oS5pk I have a challenge for you, reader. Listen to this song, and at no point headbang, or at the very least tap your foot. Can't be done! The song opens with vocalist Robert Plant's famous Valhallic wail, backed by a powerful galloping riff, courtesy of guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones, and for the majority of the song that awesome staccato riff keeps on pounding. Led Zeppelin are often referred to, even today, as "the heaviest band of all time". With stuff like the Immigrant Song, it isn't hard to see why.
