20 Greatest Punk Albums Ever Made

18. The Damned - Machine Gun Etiquette

Where other punk bands came and went seemingly in the blink of an eye, The Damned proved to be harder to shake off and have remained a consistent figure in the British alternative music scene for over 40 years now.

Forming in 1976, The Damned are perhaps the most underrated punk band of all time when you look at their accolades. 'New Rose' was the first punk single released in the UK, then 'Damned Damned Damned' was the first punk album and they were also the first British punk band to tour the United States.

Having peaked at #12 in the UK Album Chart upon it release in 1979, 'Machine Gun Etiquette' received a surprising amount of support compared to other punk records from the same period. This is surely a testament to the records quality which not only epitomises punk, but also branches out to other sub-genres. 'Machine Gun Etiquette' was the band's most successful record until 2018's 'Evil Spirits' was released and became their first ever top 10 album, 42 years after their formation.
