Iron Maiden Iron Maiden were another leading light of the NWOBHM movement but the absolute antitheses to Diamond Head. While Maiden went on to become the biggest Metal band on the planet (well, joint first with Metallica anyway), Diamond Head were lost to the annals of Rock history (as were Angel Witch, Raven and the majority of British bands who disappeared without a trace after few short years in the limelight). Iron Maiden's debut may not sound like the polished band they would become but its of massive importance nonetheless. Here is where it all started and its beautifully unrefined, unfocused, grubby, aggressive and downright belligerent. Punk Rock's influence was unavoidable and represented by the snarling, spitting delivery of Maiden's original vocalist Paul Di'Anno, but this was music far more progressive in scope and execution than Punk's limited D-Beat, 3 minute blasts of noise. "Phantom of the Opera" (a 7 minute Prog on speed epic) was Thrash Metal before Thrash Metal was officially invented and they weren't afraid to throw in a semi-rock ballad in the shape of "Remember Tomorrow". For a generation hungry for Punk's aggression but demanding more skill and variation from their musicians, Iron Maiden's debut was the answer to their prayers. '80's Metal had arrived and it was going to be huge.

I love Heavy Metal, and generally anything that involves a guitar and loud noises, so I figured it was about time I put all the useless information in my head to good use and start writing a few things.
