As tough and soaked in masculinity as you'd expect from someone from such an industrial region, Rodgers blended the soul of a Northern rocker (see also Brian Johnson and Alan Hull) with an almighty, throaty roar.

His voice didn't so much compliment gigantic riffs, as it threatened to over-power them while retaining a bluesy edge.
