Throughout their career, Muse are a band that have managed to straddle the line between alternative and mainstream. The former owes heavily due to lyrics and their experimental sound, the latter to the power of Matt Bellamy's vocal range and Chris Wolstenholme's killer baselines underpinning many of the band's shining tracks.
Though the band have alluded to new material since touring Simulation Theory, it has been pretty vague. In an October 2020 interview, Bellamy confirmed he'd resumed writing for Muse, discussing his writing process:
"I started writing when all the protests and all the chaos were kicking off. It’s a weird thing to say but it suits the music I write. It keeps you a little bit on edge.".
The band are believed (by social media sleuths) to have been back in the recording studio in March 2021 with the album being mastered in early December. After some teasing, the album's first single Won't Stand Down was released on 13th January 2022. It saw the band both invoking classic Muse and being a soundtrack to the present day in this ode to standing your ground in the face of adversity.
