From the late-80s to the present day, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have never left the headphones of listeners. Both an institution, having been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and also able to surprise fans. Their 2022 album poses to be no different.
In October 2021, drummer Chad Smith revealed that the band's twelfth album was "almost done" and that it would drop before the band embark on their world wide tour in June 2022.
This album also involves guitarist John Frusciante for the first time since 2006's Stadium Arcadium. Smith discussed how this has affected the recording of album #12:
[…] John hasn’t been in our group in 10 years. That’s a long time. So of course, it’s going to sound different, but it’s gonna sound like the four of us because we do have this special chemistry together. It sounds like Red Hot Chili Peppers, but it’s different and new, and to me that’s great. … We really like it and we’re proud of it and it has to start there. If other people like it, great […] But, yeah, we’re all really happy with the record.”
