13. Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
Fleetwood Mac has been a band that have gone through more than their fair share of shakeups. While the group was primarily known as one of the greatest acts of the British blues explosion, things started to go a bit south when founding member Peter Green decided to leave the band. After going through various other guitarists, the band added Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, who would shift the band's sound to something much more exciting.
Though some of the band members weren't quite sure about changing their sound, the band took a risk with Rumours and struck musical gold. From the moody guitar playing to the gorgeous vocal melodies, almost every one of these songs has potential to be a single...but it wasn't necessarily glorious behind the scenes.
Completed over months, most of the record was being made while the band members were going through breakups with their fellow band members. Rather than letting that hinder the quality of the record, the band channeled all of that raw emotion and heartache into these songs, which ended up finding a permanent home on radio for generations. It is a bit unfortunate to hear how troubling the development was, but sometimes it takes a bit more than blood, sweat, and tears to make something amazing.
