20 Most Underrated Classic Rock Songs Of All Time
7. Love - John Lennon
When people look back on the members of the Beatles, John Lennon tends to get shafted as the songwriter with the least technical ability. Even though he may have written some classic songs, even Lennon said that his technical prowess on a guitar and piano were shoddy at best. Then again, who needs the actual knowledge when you have songs with this much punch?
Coming off of the Beatles' breakup in the early 70's, Lennon retreated to his English home and underwent primal therapy to let out the anger he had been feeling since he was a teenager. Though Plastic Ono Band is filled to the brim with raw emotion, nothing shows the sunny side of Lennon better than "Love." Compared to the more scathing takes on the record like "Working Class Hero" and "God," this delicate ballad on an acoustic guitar shows a side of Lennon that knows he needs nothing else in the world as long as he has Yoko Ono beside him.
Given the minimal production of the record, you can really hear the quality of his vocals, as they seem to float like a disembodied spirit above the music. His songwriter partner Paul McCartney may have known how to write a catchy melody, but "Love" showed where the heart of the Beatles really went.
