20 Most Underrated Classic Rock Songs Of All Time
17. You Got Me Runnin - Def Leppard
Def Leppard are probably known more for their pop rock hooks than their actual hard rock past. Long before the band became the poster boys of hair metal with albums like Hysteria, their sound were rooted in much heavier acts like AC/DC and UFO. The later period may have the classic hits, but the most enduring material comes just before the albums ending in -ia.
On the band's second effort High N Dry, they hooked up with producer Mutt Lange for the first time, who would eventually take them to the top Pyromania. As opposed to the polished nature of their later days, this album is a hard rock album first and foremost, with songs that hit like a sledgehammer like "Let It Go." However, the song "You Got Me Runnin" stands as the perfect bridge between both sides of the band's sounds.
Standing at just over 4 minutes, this song could have easily been a breakout single for the band, with the heaviness of the verses giving way to a decent singalong chorus. There's no disputing the greatness of songs like "Photograph," but this is what happens when you get a band like AC/DC to write a song with Cheap Trick.
