20 Most Underrated Classic Rock Songs Of All Time

13. Wasted Time - Eagles

Whenever you talk about the Eagles, more often than not it comes to Hotel California. The song and accompanying album has become so ingrained in the pop consciousness that it tends to go beyond rock altogether and become a staple of 70's music. While other tracks like "Life in the Fast Lane" also get credited as some of the best songs the band has to offer, why isn't there more people sticking up for this ballad?

Coming right after the album's run of hits, many people tend to think that "Wasted Time" is where the album loses its momentum, but the music on display here is anything but subpar. With just a piano, strings, and Don Henley's voice, this song is when the band's music went from simple rock tunes to some of the most fleshed out musical ideas of the time. What's even more gripping than the melody is the story of the song, which details a couple's journey from romantic bliss to separation to eventual reconciliation.

Given the dramatic heft in this one song, the listener gets to witness a whole soap opera scenario play out before their very ears. People may have seen this as the Eagles running out of gas after their singles run, but this marked the end of Act 1 as opposed to the actual finale.
