20 Most Underrated Hard Rock Songs Of All Time
15. A Warm Place - Nine Inch Nails
As the industrial movement got underway, Nine Inch Nails were one of the most disturbing acts to come out of the genre. Armed with the mind of Trent Reznor, the band pumped out tunes that sounded like they were coming from the deepest depths of the underworld. Though the Downward Spiral may show the peak of the band's dark power, there are a few bright spots in between the pitch black.
Emerging right after the abrasive nature of "Big Man With a Gun," Reznor puts the listener back on stable ground with "A Warm Place." Rather than use another track to blast you, this subtle offering certainly lives up to its title by giving you a softer backing track and beautiful ambient work. However, we aren't out of the woods just yet, with some of the instruments containing the faint whisperings of a man's voice through the chaos.
Considering the album's story of a man pillaging through his everyday life until his eventual death, this song is the sounds of the man's humanity being unveiled for the very last time. The rest of the album isn't going to be pretty, but it hurts all the more once you hear what this guy could have been.
