20 Most Underrated Hard Rock Songs Of All Time
16. Psycho Holiday - Pantera
Pantera is known as one of the heaviest acts to ever come out of the 90's. When everyone else was tuning into the sounds of bands like Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots, these guys were taking the darkest sides of rock music and mashing them together into one beautifully messed up noise. Though the songs hit you from the word go, even the heaviest material would still have you tapping your foot.
When people talk about the band's first masterpiece, they usually bring up the title track to Cowboys From Hell, whose rolling riff deserves a spot among the greatest of all time. On the other hand, songs like "Psycho Holiday" show Pantera as a lean rocking machine. As opposed to the rolling rhythm of the title track, this song from Cowboys has one of the most irresistible rhythmic structures in the band's catalog. It may have a metal heart, but the actual execution owes something to Texas Swing, almost as if you're listening to Slayer trying to play a ZZ Top song.
Though the influence may be clear, there's no getting around the power behind Phil Anselmo's shrieks, as he prepares to tear you apart with the power behind his throat. This might not be the very best the band has to offer, but "Psycho Holiday" showed that whatever Pantera thought up would have a certain muscle behind it.
