20 Most Underrated Nu-Metal Anthems

4. Otep – Blood Pigs

Nu-metal bruisers Otep don’t mess around. Led by the jaw dropping growl of frontwoman Otep Shamaya, these dark weavers created a sound that’s as heavy as nu-metal can possibly get without veering into other harder sub-genres. However, their death and gothic metal flourishes are exactly what makes them stand out from the pack.

Produced by metal extraordinaire Terry Date, first album Sevas Tra featured one ungodly single in ‘Blood Pigs.’ The 2001 track checks all the nu-metal boxes, but expertly throws in some extra metal strands like Shamaya’s death metal screams the lead guitarist Rob Patterson’s groove metal traits along the way. Even though Sevas Tra reached number 145 on Billboard, This explosive noise blast should have sent the group into the upper echelons of nu-metal.

When they’re at the top of their game like they are on ‘Blood Pigs,’ Otep’s abrasive style can even give closest musical peers Slipknot a run for their money. In other words: batten down the hatches because this track drops some serious sonic bombs from the first second to the last.
