20 Most Underrated Nu-Metal Anthems

15. Incubus – A Certain Shade of Green

Before they became wavy-haired, soft rock enthusiasts, there was a time when Incubus were a pretty hard-hitting band. In particular, their funky, metal-infused debut album S.C.I.E.N.C.E. It rarely gets talked about today, but first single ‘A Certain Shade of Green’ is one of the best songs to come out of the nu-metal period.

What makes the song so impressive is the way it moves between different musical genres almost seamlessly. They somehow blend nu-metal, jazz, hip-hop, electronica, and funk into one cohesive whole, and for that they should be applauded. It’s just a shame that this mind-bending track doesn’t get heralded as much as their more radio-friendly material does.

The group would follow up with the lighter, but even better sophomore record Make Yourself, but not before leaving a peculiar dent in heavy metal’s hardened shell.
