20 Music Videos That Defined The 90s

2. Nine Inch Nails - "Closer" (1997)

Closer Perhaps better known as that one song that goes "I want to f**k you like an animal", here is where industrial music finally cracked its way into the mainstream, with a truly disturbing video that was heavily censored by MTV (via several 'Scene Missing" insert cards). That the song became a sing-along sorority party staple probably irritated prince of darkness-in training Trent Reznor, but he seemed to have no problem cashing his royalty checks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eROTYeIyJg

1. Ice Cube - "It Was A Good Day" (1993)

Ice 600x300 At the far end of the golden age of hip-hop lies this perfect encapsulation of life in the South Central hood from Ice Cube about a better-than-average day ("I didn't even have to use my AK.") Gangster rap would fade in popularity and Cube would go on in the ensuing decades to make several dreadful "family friendly" comedies, but when this track dropped Cube was briefly the most threatening figure in music. We know, hard to imagine, right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoIgiwEVCUQ What do you think? Leave your thoughts and picks for best 90's videos in the comments below.

Hi there, What Culture-ers! I'm William Graff, a 40-year old freelance writer from the wilds of Capitol Hill in beautiful Denver, Colorado. I enjoy many things such as beer, Doctor Who, The Simpsons, record collecting, stand-up comedy, long aimless walks, and of course the Broncos, which is required by law if you live here. I appreciate all feedback for my writing, but I prefer cash and/or deleted Smiths singles in lieu of praise. Rock on!
