Granted, a bass guitar isn't the most complex looking instrument to the untrained eye and, yes, most of the time you're not focusing too much on the finer points of musical theory when you're thrashing out a tune, but still. "Yeah, we're going to do it in E" quip your bandmates, before telling you to just "mess about on the top string". Really, really considerate of them to come down to your level for a while. Just try not and roll your eyes.
