20 Punk Rock Albums You Must Hear Before You Die

8. London Calling - The Clash

Save for the Sex Pistols, The Clash are probably the single most influential British punk rock band in history. And their third studio album, London Calling, is the record that secured their legacy as genre forerunners.

From the band's wonderful instrumental sound to Joe Strummer's echoing, unmistakable voice, London Calling is an absolute treat for the ears. There's the timeless, iconic title track, of course, but there's also some other incredible songs to be heard as well, such as Death or Glory, Koka Kola, and The Guns of Brixton (which is sung by bassist Paul Simonon.)

Plus, you'd be hard pressed to find an album with a more iconic cover than London Calling. The black and white photo of Simonon slamming his bass guitar into the ground is on par with the Beatles walking across Abbey Road.
