Please, please don't say that Manson is a has-been. We have far too many examples to prove otherwise. His covers continue to be a standout, like his chill-inducing remake of "This Is Halloween" from The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack disc Nightmare Revisited, where tunes from the movie were updated. Yes, even the diehards will admit that 2007's Eat Me, Drink Me, 2009's The High End of Low, and 2012's Born Villain weren't Manson's most inspired albums ever. However, there's nothing wrong with them. It's not like they're unlistenable. We just knew that Manson could do better. Better he has. Cementing that he's anything but boring, this year's The Pale Emperor blew all expectations of a Manson album out of the water. Bluesy, jazzy, sophisticated, and sparse, this gritty set of 10 songs is loved by critics and of course by us. He's probably got even more up his sleeve yet.
