20 Things You Didn't Know About BTS
4. They Had Small Hip-Hop Beginnings
When it comes to K-Pop, most of the successful idols have come from what are known as the Big 3 entertainment companies: SM, YG, and JYP Entertainment. However, when BTS debuted in 2013, they came from the smaller Big Hit Entertainment, which was founded by producer and song-writer Bang Sihyuk.
Bang PD (as he's known to the band) was looking for something different with this band and he scoured Korea's underground hip-hop scene, finding RM and Suga who were both rappers at the time.
We've already looked at how V was only along for the auditions with a friend, but J-Hope and Jimin were well-known dancers at the time. Jungkook had appeared on an idol-sourcing television programme called Superstar-K, which gave him the pick of several offers (he eventually chose Big Hit because they'd signed RM). Finally, Jin was talent-spotted for his look while out on a break from university.
Having secured the band, they debuted not as the multi-genre giants they've become over the years. Bang PD wanted something that was new for mainstream Korean entertainment and so the band launched with some niche 90s rap stylings.
