16. Backstreets (1975)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oID_fZDtcs0 Backstreets has one of the best piano intros in rock and roll history. The piano builds up to that eventual moment when the rest of the instruments kick in and you feel it in your gut. The song has quite the reputation with Springsteen followers as an all time favourite. It even inspired the name of the most well known Springsteen fan-zine and website. Much like the previously mentioned Incident On 57th Street, Springsteen fans "chase" Backstreets in hope of seeing it performed live. 15. Born To Run (1975)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDMr59T3JSM It would be hard to leave this song off the list and retain any credibility. Make no mistake, this is the song that made Bruce Springsteen a superstar. This is the title track from the album which landed Bruce on the cover of Time and Newsweek (simultaneously). If you have never seen Bruce live before, there is one thing that you must do. The first time you see him and he plays Born To Run (as he always does), take in your surroundings. When the houselights come up, just look around the arena. You will know why once you see it. This song is a magical experience live, no matter how many times you have seen it. The looks on everyone's face in the crowd, everyone up out of their chairs, the look on the band's face....this is THE anthem of Springsteen's brand of rock and roll.
