20 Universally-Hated Songs That Are Actually Technically Very Good

5. Creed - Higher

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J16lInLZRms Christian metal at it's most profitable, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone these days who will comfortably admit to liking Creed back when they were selling billions and selling out stadiums off the back of Jesus-posturing, on-stage christ poses and "Oh Lord do you hear me?"-style lyrics. Most of the ire is directed at vocalist Scott Stapp, whose particular brand of Christian affirmation has gone from acceptable radio rock to plain irritating. It's clear that people like the band backing him up though, as they're 3/4s of Alter Bridge who are currently one of the hottest properties in the rock world right now. While AB are selling out stadiums around the world, you can definitely hear in Creed that the talent was always there, the opening chord progression from Mark Tremonti being utterly sublime, and the whole song has a stadium-filling feel about it. It's a bit galling that there is such strong feeling against Stapp in the rock community, because the wonderful music Creed did make is always going to be judged as awful simply because of their frontman.
