2019’s 10 Weirdest Music Collaborations

2. Chance The Rapper And Randy Newman - Five Year Plan

Chance the Rapper’s July release The Big Day was renowned for collaborators, as like any Chance project there are plenty of guest stars. Particular outliers include a song with indie rockers Death Cab for Cutie, and John Legend spending time away from his piano on a trap track.

One pianist who lent his keys was the veteran singer-songwriter and film composer Randy Newman. 26-year-old Chance is said to be a fan of the Californian crooner from his father. Pixar films aside, Newman has released 11 critically-acclaimed albums since 1968. Away from Academy Awards success, it was Newman's first flirtation with the pop mainstream since his single Short People hit the US no. 2 in 1978.

50 years in age separate the two, but they bounce off one another seamlessly on their philosophy of life in Five Year Plan. The fifteenth track is one of the most streamed from The Big Day. “It’s a real good record and I’m proud to be a part of it. My rapping career begins now,” joked Newman on Instagram.
