2019’s 10 Weirdest Music Collaborations

3. Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, And Lana Del Rey - Don't Call Me Angel

Oddly releasing a month before Charlie's Angels, we have the only movie soundtrack on the list. Don’t Call Me Angel brings together the Queen of Pop Ariana Grande, good-girl-gone-bad Miley Cyrus, and indie darling Lana Del Rey.

Del Rey’s first commercial pop cameo feels rushed but also under-utilised. Why not justify the shock value of these three women singing together by sharing out more lines in the song?

This trio feels a little bit like Jessie J’s 2014 power single Bang Bang with Grande and Nicki Minaj, but there’s something about Don’t Call Me Angel that just doesn’t sit right. The song was probably an Ariana Grande album reject with a last minute co-features decision to widen it - and the film's - appeal.

This pairing feels a bit like your quirky cousin crashing the school disco. All three are set to release records by the end of this year, with only Cyrus remaining as we recently reported in our list of anticipated albums for the rest of 2019. So was this combination this a label-choice to boost sales before Christmas? Regardless, Don't Call Me Angel is the weakest release of the year by far for all three.
