21 Best Punk Albums Of The 21st Century
1. Rise Against - The Sufferer And The Witness
Even though the commerical success and legacy of Green Day's 'American idiot' is essentially unmatchable, it still falls second to this completely perfect punk rock record.
Appearing for the second time in this list, Rise Against prove that they are without doubt amongst the biggest draws in punk rock today. Although Green Day have enjoyed more success and have a bigger fanbase, it could be argued that Rise Against have been far more consistent over the years and have debatably never made a bad album.
'The Sufferer & the Witness' was the band's fourth studio album, and had the tough task of following 2004's 'Siren Song of the Counter Culture'. In spite of the daunting bar it had to clear, this impeccable record easily propelled Rise Against to new heights of fame not just in America, but across the entire world. Spearheaded by classic modern punk tunes like 'Chamber the Cartridge', 'Ready to Fall', 'Prayer of the Refugee' and 'Under the Knife', it is difficult to fully describe just how great this album is.
Followed by 'Appeal to Reason' and 'Endgame' in 2008 and 2011 respectively, Rise Against have shown not only their talent, but their incredible longevity too. Most bands spend their whole careers trying to make a 10/10 album, while Rise Against released four in a row.
