21 Biggest Metal Riffs Of All Time

21. Children Of Bodom - Scream For Silence

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-J4P3NgA3U Still proving to be band of the most righteous acquired taste, if you can get on board with the strangled Cookie Monster-vocals you'll discover one of the best melodically-tinged death metal bands in history. Although lead shredder and throat-abuser Alexi Laiho has had more than his fair share of run-ins with alcoholism, when it comes to delivering on-record, both himself and the band are only getting better with age. Scream for Silence is a masterclass in perfectly blending the more advanced scales that superior string-smiths deploy across entire compositions along with some more easily-accessible Metallica-sized notes plucked from the E Minor pentatonic scale (that is to say to any who do not play guitar; Kirk Hammett's scale of choice for 90% of the bands discography since - and including - the Black Album). It's one of those tracks that just bursts out the gate with such a devout purpose it commands every iota of your attention and holds it in place for the duration. Now if we could all band together with some form of light-emitting device and spell out "Stop drinking, Alexi!", that'd be just perfect.
