https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vq3hP9Sd1sM Remember back when Bullet were set to take over the world, one stadium at a time? It was down to songs like this, with intros as instantly sky-punching as this. These days - aside from the aforementioned Raising Hell - last year's diabolically terrible Temper, Temper all but secured the band in a coffin whose lid they were pulling shut on themselves. However flash back to just after The Poison helped put them on the map along with metalcore-masters Killswitch Engage circa 2008 and the band were riding higher than ever before. Enter Scream, Aim, Fire, the album that suitably divided their fanbase into two equally huge camps; those who thought they'd lost some of the ferocity present on their full-length debut, and the rest who embraced the likes of the above tune along with other much wider-reaching ballads such as Say Goodnight and Hearts Burst Into Fire, not to mention the title track which prompted the latter to happily scream and sing along to their heart's content. It's precisely because of this that Waking The Demon manages to be one of the few tracks of a post-Poison Bullet that ticks both boxes, firing out an intro that's instantly recognisable yet harder than you think to play proficiently, all the while being a perfect pace-builder both on-record and live. Sure The Poison is stuffed to the brim with quality intros, but if we're talking about crossover material that really made the world take notice, Waking The Demon is right up there - just make sure you only stick to two and a half's worth of album material, and you can carry on reliving the glory days until the next proper followup comes along.
