12. Lars Ulrich Almost Didn't Make The Cut At All

One of the first people to criticise Lars' drumming is Lars himself these days, but way back in 1981 Hetfield was apparently pretty unimpressed with him too, as his cymbals kept falling apart and he couldn't keep time on their initial practice sessions.

It was only when Lars had secured Metallica's first appearance on the Metal Massacre compilation that Hetfield decided to give him a shot, the rest being history.
