The pioneer of Pink Floyd's ethereal style and sonic textures, Gilmour's guitar style was a contradiction of everything the band seemed to stand for: heavy, bluesy and fearsome.

His work is elegant and compelling, with irresistible melodies, and he was at the forefront of pushing effects, like the echo, which have since been borrowed from Floyd by a thousand wannabe bands. Here's to the innovator.
