25 Best Albums Of The Past Decade

3. Tool - 10,000 Days (2006)

Tool.jpg=600Notable Tracks: Jambi, Wings for Marie & 10,000 Days, Rosetta Stoned, Right in Two I truly hope you guys/girls made it this far, because if there is one way I can broaden your musical horizons and appreciation for true art, it's with these last few entries. Those of you who know me, probably saw this coming. For those of you who don't know of this band, however, I implore you to get this album and experience its majesty. 10,000 Days is the latest release (unfortunately) from Tool, and quite honestly, not their best. I would be lying to you if I told you it wasn't one of the best Rock albums in decades, though. If you've never heard of this band, I urge you to give them a chance. They are a 4-piece band consisting of vocalist Maynard James Keenan, guitarist (and album cover artist) Adam Jones, bassist Justin Chancellor, and drummer Danny Carey. Danny Carey is largely revered (and rightfully so) as one of the best rock drummers of all time. If you want to hear some innovative, close to impossible drum tracks, then this is your band. The most notable song on the album is Wings for Marie (both parts). Maynard wrote the song about his deceased mother and her battle with a terminal illness. If you have a heart in your chest, it will be moved by the sheer realistic emotion the second part of the two-part song elicits. If it's incredible drumming you want to hear, check out Rosetta Stoned and Right in Two. The former is a rather strange song, to say the least, but there is a stretch of time during the song where Danny Carey plays in some of the most impressive polyrhythms I've ever heard. If that doesn't impress you, how about song synchronicity and a little album riddle. The album is called 10,000 Days, so , naturally, some emphasis should be placed on that song. The final song on the album, titled Viginti Tres, which means "23" in Latin is 5:02 long. The first part of Wings for Marie is 6:11 long. The Second part of Wings (10,000 Days) is 11:13 long. If you use a simple music tool (no pun intended) on your computer to combine Viginti Tres and Wings (pt.1) to create one 11:13 long track, then play it at the exact same time as 10,ooo Days on another music player, all three songs synchronize perfectly to create one song that produces the sound of an 8-piece band. Now that's art!

Hello there! I'm a graduate of FGCU (A.K.A. Dunk City!) I'm currently working on an M.A. in English Literature at Hofstra University. I'd like to eventually pursue either a M.S. in Business Administration or a Ph.D in Old English and Medieval Literature. I do thoroughly enjoy studying Old English for some mysterious reason. In my spare time, I try to keep up with well over a dozen television shows simultaneously, I frequent the local theaters, and I am an avid sports or FPS video gamer. Some of my favorite TV shows include: Dexter, The Office, X-Files, Homeland, and The Sopranos. Some of my favorite films include: The Usual Suspects, Donnie Darko, American Beauty, Fight Club, and Goodfellas.
