25 Best Albums Of The Past Decade

4. A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step (2003)

A_Perfect_Circle-Thirteenth_StepNotable Tracks: The Package, The Noose, The Outsider, Pet I can hardly describe how conflicted I was with these final four albums and their placement on this list. Here we have APC's second record. I never thought they would be able to top their 2000 release, but, clearly, I underestimated Maynard James Keenan and his group of rock enthusiasts. If you don't believe me, listen to the very first track on this album. The Package is so subtle, yet undeniably powerful. MJK simply understands his life, and he somehow always finds such subtle, seemingly negligible ways to welcome the listener to his personal Utopia. One of Maynard's more memorable lyrics (although not with this band) is, "What became of subtlety." Well, sir, I think you might have found the answer. Nearly every song on this particular album describes a particular act or emotion in either vivid details or subtle abstractions, but, even the most desperate actions being described are presented with an aura that is almost unfathomable. Give your ears a treat and listen to this album a few times before formulating an opinion. You won't regret it.

Hello there! I'm a graduate of FGCU (A.K.A. Dunk City!) I'm currently working on an M.A. in English Literature at Hofstra University. I'd like to eventually pursue either a M.S. in Business Administration or a Ph.D in Old English and Medieval Literature. I do thoroughly enjoy studying Old English for some mysterious reason. In my spare time, I try to keep up with well over a dozen television shows simultaneously, I frequent the local theaters, and I am an avid sports or FPS video gamer. Some of my favorite TV shows include: Dexter, The Office, X-Files, Homeland, and The Sopranos. Some of my favorite films include: The Usual Suspects, Donnie Darko, American Beauty, Fight Club, and Goodfellas.
