15. Under The Westway
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ifd9nBKSJnk 'Under the Westway' began as a "national anthem" that Damon Albarn composed for his own amusement, and ended as a tear-jerking tribute to the ever-changing London skyline. The first proper single since the reunion(sort of), and a final chapter for the band (sort of), it's something of a milestone in the man's career. It's wistful and longing with heartbreaking imagery of "men in yellow jackets putting adverts inside my dreams", and it was a perfect song to slot into the 2012 Hyde Park gig, as it looked to the next chapter of London life, with one eye firmly on the past. It's both '13'-esque and related to the 'Parklife' ballads, but it's older, maturer and in a comfortable gear throughout. It's the one we'd been waiting for, and they didn't let us down: It's like they'd grown up, but simultaneously, never been away.
