25 Best Metal Albums Of The Decade

20. Deafheaven - Ordinary Corrupt Human Love (2018)

Ordinary Corrupt Human Love sees metal's most divisive band indulging in their shoegaze, dream pop, and post-rock influences more than ever before. Opening with the gentle "You Without End" - a song that has nothing to do with the black metal that spawned Deafheaven's subgenre, George Clarke's shrieks aside - it is a record of crescendos, walls of sound, and genuine tenderness, maintaining enough frostbitten guitar lines to satiate those looking for a harder edge.

Clarke's lyrics, as always, are one of the biggest draws. Ordinary Corrupt Human Love is crammed with the kind of poetic introspection the band are known for, adding another layer of Deafheaven's sentimental, bittersweet aesthetic.
