15. Climbing Up The Walls
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbtZyuOMdHI Artist: RadioheadAlbum: 'OK Computer'Year: 1997 ...Well, apart from maybe this one. Between the familiar guitar clang of 'Electioneering' and the narcotic lullaby of 'No Surprises' lies 'Climbing Up The Walls', a nightmarish scream of a song set in the evenings of a mental asylum. Which is dark enough for any band, but when Radiohead want to up the ante, they don't do it by halves. It's perhaps the first moment when you feel genuinely scared of Thom Yorke; gone is the celestial, warm croon, replaced by a creepy drawl, telling you "Either way you turn... I'll be there." The drums are footsteps stalking you around the corridors, and the strings are nails of a blackboard, amidst the shrills and shreds of guitar that wrap the song up. 'Paranoid Android' is tame in comparison; this isn't just rage, it's unhinged mania.
